What is it?
Neomycin Sulfate is the most commonly used antibiotic in skin creams,  ointment and in drops used in the eyes and ears. It is frequently used in combination with other antibacterials, antifungals, and corticosteroids. Neomycin is available in prescription and nonprescription forms. It is infrequently used by dentists and veterinarians. Occasionally it is given by mouth for local antibacterial effects in the gastrointestinal tract.

How can I avoid it?
Patient should read labels of all topical medication and avoid this substance. Since some of this substance is present in prescription drugs (creams, ointments, pills, and injections), the patient should supply all health care providers with the list of products containing Neomycin Sulfate and the cross-reacting substances.
