rodessa, if a product contains essential oils we mark it as NOT fragrance-free. You are correct about essential oils counting as fragrance. We consider artificial or natural fragrances/botanicals as fragrances and any product that contain any of these ingredients will be rated as not fragrance-free.

Can you clarify. If this product has essential oils you do not mark it as fragranced? Essential oils are fragrance regardless of natural or synthetic.

We have rated this product as NOT being fragrance-free. It contains mauritia flexuosa (buriti) fruit oil, opuntia ficus indica flower extract, methyl dihydroabietate and these are all considered fragrance.
Sometimes brands use plant & flower extracts or essential oils in a product & consider them to be fragrance-free. That is most likely why the label on the packaging says "fragrance-free" but we rate it as NOT fragrance-free. Naturally derived ingredients including essentials oils or botanicals are not necessarily safer or less allergy causing than synthetic fragrances. Our fragrance-free filter excludes essential oils.

It says fragrance free but says it is not safe for me. Do you know why? I have a limonene allergy.
